Komodo National Park and Sumbawa
We kick off from Labuan Bajo on Flores Island, initiating our underwater exploration on the north side of Komodo. In addition to this, we are visiting location outside of the Komodo park and to Sumbawa with a change to catch a glimpse of whale shark.
Expect vibrant reefs adorned with sizable coral heads and teeming with diverse fish life. From enchanting soft coral reefs to exhilarating drift dives, and striking hard coral reefs to unique black sand muck dives – Komodo has it all. Manta rays, schools of fish, turtles, reef sharks, and an array of peculiar marine life await.
Heading north within Komodo National Park, discover fish-filled pinnacles, potential encounters with reef sharks, eagle rays, and turtles. Dive enthusiasts flock to Crystal and Castle Rock, and explore the fishy wonders of Shotgun and The Passage.
Navigating the channel between Komodo and Flores, be captivated by colorful reefs and dynamic drift dives. Karang Makassar beckons, offering the chance to drift along the seabed in search of majestic manta rays. Tatawa Besar and Siaba Kecil boast healthy reefs, best experienced while effortlessly floating with the current. Batu Bolong’s pinnacle showcases coral and fish life beyond imagination.
Our journey then takes us to Gili Banta, just outside Komodo National Park, is a fantastic place to dive with something for everyone. On the one hand we have the high adrenalin sites of Rollercoaster and GPS Point which on their day produce incredible dives with big fish and magnificent coral covered scenery around the jaw dropping marine architecture. On the other there is the remarkable Circus dive site that promises a great array of critters in particular the elusive stargazer, during a night dive over the sand and corals.
The following day brings us to Sangeang Volcano, an active site featuring Hot Rocks, where bubbles emerge from the reef, creating a natural jacuzzi. The black sands harbor mystical creatures, making the night dive an unmissable spectacle.
Cruising overnight, we arrive at Satonda and Sumbawa. Satonda offers a vibrant reef for two dives, unveiling nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, and cuttlefish. In the afternoon, we venture to Sumbawa Island for the unexpected wonders of Sumbawa Surprise.
Our journey then leads to Saleh Bay on Sumbawa Island, offering a chance to witness whale sharks feeding at the bagans (fishing platforms). The local belief in the good luck these colossal fish bring adds a cultural touch to the encounter. If luck is on our side, we might witness multiple whale sharks, marveling at their mesmerizing circles and fish-sucking antics. The dive concludes in Moyo before the week ends.
